I am a mother to five children, three adults and two teens. I wanted to relocate from my old neighborhood to offer my children a better, safer environment to grow up in, with better schools. I enrolled in the Inclusive Communities Project’s program, where the staff helped me relocate to a neighborhood that I liked. The area we found is really nice and safe—we don’t hear gunshots anymore. We’ve been in our current neighborhood for five years now, and we are settled and comfortable, even though it being predominantly white was very different from where we used to live. My family is doing really well, we have things to celebrate: My youngest daughter graduated from Texas Tech in 2023, and my youngest son is graduating middle school in Frisco in Spring 2024 around the same time I’ll be graduating from Southern Methodist University!
